What is eggfood?

Eggfood is an essential supplementary nutrition to the daily ration of seed eating birds. If you feed birds only with seeds, undoubtely nutritional shortages will occur because seeds contain insufficient vitamins, trace elements and amino acids. By supplementing the diet with eggfood, deficiencies will be avoided and birds will feel perfectly healthy.

According to the period of the year, you will have to feed more or less eggfood. There are namely three important periods in a year, in which birds have different needs: the breeding-, moulting- and resting period.
During the breeding period - preparation, brooding and rearing of the youg - you have to administer eggfood daily. According to the number of young birds in the nest, you increase the portion of eggfood at half of the daily ration. The parent birds mainly use eggfood for feeding their young birds.
Also during moulting time you give them eggfood daily. In this period birds completely renew feathers: This is a very exhausting period for them. During this time, birds have an increased need of minerals and sulphurous amino acids. These nutritious substances can be found in this eggfood.
During the resting period it's recommended to feed the birds with eggfood three times a week, which equals 1/3 of their portion. This supplies vitamins, sulphurous amino acids and minerals which birds cannot find sufficiently in the seed mixtures.

Sorts of eggfood

Orlux offers dry as well as moist eggfood. As far as quality and composition are concerned, these nutrition types are absolutely equal, but the big difference is, that the moist eggfood, Gold patee is moistened with 100 % pure and natural honey. By adding honey the eggfood is ready-to-eat and may be administered to the birds right away. Honey gives a high nutritional value and a good flavor to the eggfood, through which it can be ingested perfectly. The dry eggfood may be administered "dry" to the birds, but a lot of birds will have problems with the taking of this eggfood. Therefore it's recommended to moisten the dry eggfood. There are different ways to do this: with a few drops of water, some fruit and/or vegetables, germ seed, yogurt, a hard-boiled egg... These substances make the eggfood sandier and easier to digest for the birds.

The Orlux eggfood is based on a biscuit baked with fresh eggs. The essential vitamins, amino acids and trace elements are already mixed in the dough. In this way, the essential ingredients are homogenously divided. It's obvious that a canary and a parrot have both completely different needs! This also means that they need a different type of nutrition. In order to meet the specific needs of each bird species, Orlux has elaborated an appropriate nutrition type for each group of birds.
